Its January, its bleak, the weather is blurghh and we could all do with some inspiration.
Sitting at my kitchen table this morning I was trying to think of something to write about today, the words “I need inspiration” kept going over in my mind.
The great thing is when we start thinking about things our wonderful brains keep working on it whilst we aren’t even consciously thinking about it, I took the dogs out, got rained on came back had a coffee and Bingo, my answer, Inspirational people.
I’ve got an inspire mood board on the front of one of my notebooks, its covered in things that inspire me, the dominating factor on the book is my work and people I admire.
So who inspires me?
Rosa Parks - not someone I had even learnt about at school, bizarrely I had never heard of her until I watched Doctor Who, how is this even possible, this woman is one of the bravest women I’ve ever read about. Rosa took the word inner strength and nailed it. She made a stand for what she believed in, she refused to accept that that was how things were and she fought for what she knew was right.
On a similar note there’s an incredible film called “Hidden Figures” which is a true story about racial and gender discrimination in the world of work, if you haven’t seen it, put it on your list.
This film shows what you can achieve even if its bloody difficult! Clever women in a male dominated environment absolutely owning Maths.
Another inspirational person/ group are the Suffragettes, they refused to be silenced, they refused to be told they weren’t good enough, they wanted equality and they got it.
The sacrifices those women made so we could have a better world is inspirational to me, I am grateful and thankful for every single one of them, regardless of the size of the role they played.
Imagine living in a time when you weren’t heard because you were a woman, or prior to this, because you weren’t a land owner, to have absolutely no voice, to have to put up and shut up because someone in authority said you had no worth.
The people that have gone before us have paved the way for us to have a better way of life, hey it might not yet be perfect BUT it’s a damn sight better than it was, we have the freedom to make choices, the freedom to learn, to access healthcare, to travel, to see new exciting countries, to marry/date/see who we choose, we have the freedom to be ourselves.
These people inspire me as they showed the world that you can do anything if you want it enough, now I’m not likely to change any laws or win any prizes for Maths but I can focus my intentions on being the best version of myself.
I can sit here and feel sorry for myself because I cant go and sit on a hot beach and drink Pina Coladas or I can be grateful for the fact that one day soon I can fulfill my wishes of being in the sunshine because people fought tough times to give me the freedom to do this.
Fight through this lock down with the intention that better days will come, they will come, we just have to be patient.
When you are feeling low, sad, depressed about the situation think of those people that inspire you, it might be someone famous, it might be someone you work with or it might be a family member, there will be someone out there that you can draw inspiration from to be stronger, tougher, or more resilient when you need to find some inner strength.
Or be the person that inspires someone else, if someone is negative be a positive inspiration, if someone feels afraid be the strength they need.
It’s amazing how with words and actions we can positively influence a situation, a small act of strength or kindness can make the world of difference.
I’m part of a local gym with a whatsap group, every day I am inspired by the members of this group, we post our successes and achievements in regards to exercise and it definitely inspires me to get my backside of the sofa and do some exercise. Without the inspiration of others I would not have achieved half the fitness goals I have, I definitely wouldn’t have run 2 x 10ks and I could easily have slipped into negative cycles around the exercise.
Be an inspiration, take inspiration from others and be the best version of you.
I’m off now to dream about being on that beach, the sun on my shoulders, with a pina colada in my hand.
Happy Inspiring 😊
